Zoya Akhtar reacts to Kangana Ranaut’s criticism on ‘Gully Boy’ and nepotism debate, says she will not change her career or parents | Hindi Movie News
When quizzed if she would ever invite the actress to her parties, she pointed out that Kangana had gone on every platform and said that she didn’t like her work and hence she “shouldn’t be putting her in that position.”
While taking jibes at the number of awards Zoya’s ‘Gully Boy’ starring Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Siddhant Chaturvedi collected over the awards season, Kangana cited that Sushant Singh Rajput’s ‘Chhichhore’ was far more deserving. Sharing her take on the matter, Zoya asked why Ranaut kept talking about awards shows when she herself “boycotted” them.
When asked if she was bothered about these allegations, she shared, “Not at all, because I didn’t go for the award ceremonies, for starters, and it’s not important. She herself has boycotted the awards, so I don’t know why she keeps talking about them.”
The director also said that she can’t get offended as she has chosen to be in this profession where there will always be people who don’t like her work.
Besides this, she also addressed the nepotism debate and said that if a person was investing money on their child was nepotism, “Then every industry there is nepotism,” she said.
Zoya picked another example of a barbershop and said, “If I am a barber and I have a barbershop, am I going to leave it to my son or am I going to leave it to the best barber in the city? And that’s the bottom line.”
Meanwhile, brother Farhan Akhtar added that “talent will find a way to the surface.”
The actor and director went on to state that artists should be looked at for their work and not for their background.
Zoya added saying that she will not change her film career or parents, adding that she has the privilege to do the work she wants to do and that while she is lucky to have writers in her family, she says she cannot change her background just because some people have an issue with that.
